Don't ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up. Robert Frost

Kingfisher

Nine-tenths of tactics are certain, and taught in books: but the irrational tenth is like the kingfisher flashing across the pool, and that is the test of generals.

Abandoned

“What I really love about them... is the fact that they contain someone's personal history...I find myself wondering about their lives. I can never look at a garment... without thinking about the woman who owned it. How old was she? Did she work? Was she married? Was she happy?... I look at these exquisite shoes, and I imagine the woman who owned them rising out of them or kissing someone...I look at a little hat like this, I lift up the veil, and I try to imagine the face beneath it... When you buy a piece of vintage clothing you're not just buying the fabric and thread - you're buying a piece of someone's past.”
― Isabel WolffA Vintage Affair

“My day is done, and I am like a boat drawn on the beach, listening to the dance-music of the tide in the evening.” ― Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds

Marine drive is the place to watch beautiful sunsets. This photo was done a couple of months back, towards the fag end of the monsoon, so some traces of the clouds were still present adding some texture to the sky. Canon 550D, Tokina wide angle.

Dimple the chameleon @thebackyard

Today is the second time I came across this chameleon @thebackyard. She emerged from somewhere by around the sunset time, and posed for some photographs. This is the first one of the set of photographs I clicked  with the Canon 550D, and the 300mm lens. After this one, I clicked the rest with the lumix fz200, which has a more powerful zoom at 600mm. Will post those photographs clicked with the lumix later. Whenever I am at the backyard, I started searching for this chameleon, and today I named her Dimple :-), hoping to meet her again..

She was always hiding behind the opposite side of the tree for a while before posing for this one. One tip is to go right behind the chameleon than zeroing in from the front or sides :-). This is one of those instances when I consciously violated the rule of thirds. Lumix fz200 at f2.8, 600mm, maroumi PL filter

Sunset @Fort Kochi...

Fort kochi is very close to the backyard. This photograph was captured during one of my visits to Fort Kochi. I reached there slightly late, so the sunset was over, still some amount of ambient light was available for this photograph. Was it Christmas time?. See the christmas stars on top of the Chinese fishing nets.

Puttu in the making

Lucy

Lucy used to help us with our household work for the last couple of decades. She is terribly ill now, and is admitted in the Kottayam medical college hospital. A brave lady, who fought all odds to make both ends meet, yet pleasant and happy always. She is a very important part of our backyard. I captured this photograph a couple of years back, and still have not given a copy of it to her. Now, I am not sure whether I will be able to do it. The price of procrastination.

Here is a blog entry by me about Lucy published in the year 2012

Lucy is one of the bravest woman on planet earth. She is a widow, and has two sons. One of them is mentally challenged, and it is Lucy, who takes care of him. Lucy earns her living by doing household work of the rich in the village. With her savings, she constructed a small single room house recently, and is running around for help to fix the main door, which will cost around USD50. She spends most of her savings to take care of her sons. She gets them good food. Every year she goes to vailamkanny which is a pilgrimage center (Mother Mary appeared here), with her sons. When I see her fighting all odds and still enjoying life, she is a kind of an inspiration.....for people like he, who has already started worrying about a recession that is going to happen in 2012:-). Once in a while I ask Lucy about the impact of recession on her life....and the reply is a smile...:-)

Baptism

That is the baptism bowl at the nearby church, which is more than two centuries old. How many generations would have gone through it?
